In horror cinema, the classic monster is one of the common shocker motifs. But director Jeremy Gardner uses it in his little independent drama AFTER MIDNIGHT as a symbol for the inner life of his main character, played by himself, who has to deal with the fact that his girlfriend, who actually loves him, disappears from one day to the next without a trace. Conclusion: A slightly different monster film: “After Midnight” is a melancholic relationship parable in a minimalist setting in which tension and sadness go hand in hand.
